Gemstone Burial – A Meaningful Alternative to a Traditional Burial

A gemstone burial offers a compassionate alternative to a traditional funeral. A small amount of a loved one's cremation ashes or hair is used to create a personalized ruby or sapphire, preserving their memory in a unique and lasting way.

Because MEVISTO can create personalized gemstones from both cremation ashes and hair, this option is available whether the family chooses cremation or traditional burial.

The process begins after the cremation, when 50 grams of cremation ashes or 10 grams of hair are collected. This biogenic material is then carefully sent to our manufactory in Austria.

Using MEVISTO's scientifically verified and proprietary process, the unique chemical elements contained in the ashes or hair are extracted and permanently incorporated into the crystal structure of a growing sapphire or ruby at temperatures of over 2,000°C.

The result is a personalized ruby or sapphire whose color and characteristics are influenced by the unique elemental composition of the person it commemorates. Every gemstone is truly one of a kind, reflecting the individuality of the loved one it represents.

The finished gemstone can be set into rings, pendants, earrings, or other pieces of fine jewelry, or preserved in an elegant presentation box as a timeless keepsake for generations to come.

Custom chain lengths are available upon request.

MEVISTO offers a selection of standard chains in 14-karat gold:

  • Anchor Chain 900 (1.15 mm) – 42 / 45 cm
  • Anchor Chain 905 (1.55 mm) – 42 / 45 cm
  • Anchor Chain 907 (1.95 mm) – 42 / 45 cm
  • Curb Chain 910 (2.15 mm) – 55 cm or 60 cm
  • Leather Necklace 901 (3 mm, with lobster clasp) – 45 cm, 50 cm, or 60 cm

The anchor chains feature an adjustable jump ring, allowing them to be worn at either 42 cm or 45 cm for added flexibility.

Most MEVISTO pendants can be combined with a variety of chains. Simply ensure that the pendant bail is compatible with the chain's thickness. If you have any questions, we will be happy to help you choose the perfect combination.

As a general rule, the gold alloy of the pendant should match the gold alloy of the chain. If the chain is made from a harder alloy than the pendant, the constant movement between the two may gradually wear away the pendant's bail over time. Using matching alloys helps ensure the longevity of your jewelry.

Clean your pendant regularly with warm water and mild soap to keep your gemstone looking its best. Avoid exposing it to strong impacts or excessive force, as even the hardest gemstones can be damaged by a severe blow.

We also recommend inspecting your pendant regularly for signs of wear, particularly the bail and the setting. Routine visual checks help ensure that your jewelry remains secure and can be enjoyed for many years to come.

All MEVISTO chains are crafted from 14-karat gold.
