Our lives are finite. Sometimes a stroke of fate brings everything to an abrupt end; sometimes it is preceded by a long period of suffering – in the best-case scenario, we simply pass away peacefully in old age. In every case, loved ones are left behind to grieve and carry the pain with them.
With the utmost care, we transform the hair or ashes of a loved one into commemorative jewellery – a keepsake that provides comfort and makes their presence felt, on good days and bad alike.
We require 50 grams of cremation ashes—approximately a handful—to create personalized gemstones with a combined total weight of up to 12 carats.
The total carat weight can be divided among multiple gemstones. For example, it is possible to create two 6-carat gemstones, or several smaller gemstones, depending on your wishes.
At MEVISTO, we create personalized sapphires and rubies. Unlike memorial diamonds, which require carbon, our process does not rely on carbon at all.
Carbon burns away at temperatures well below 1,000°C, which is why very little usable carbon remains in cremation ashes. Instead, MEVISTO extracts the unique elements that naturally make each of us who we are.
Elements such as calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, and other naturally occurring trace elements are carefully extracted and permanently incorporated into the crystal structure of a growing sapphire or ruby. Together with aluminum oxide—the natural mineral that forms all corundum gemstones—they become part of a personalized gemstone that is truly one of a kind.
