Wie hat sich die Bestattung durch den Corona Virus geändert?

UPDATE 20.11.2020!

Only a few days ago, the world seemed to be in perfect order, but then the coronavirus hit Europe and has held the continent in its grip ever since.
The current situation poses a challenge of monumental proportions - economically, and even more so, on a personal level.

It is thus of great importance to us to keep you up to date with the information you need
and to lend our support and assistance to families affected by the loss of a loved one.
We have therefore compiled a concise list with answers and essential information concerning the questions as to how the coronavirus
has affected the arrangement of funeral ceremonies and why alternative burial options have now become more popular than ever before.

All key information at a glance

  1. The congregation of mourners must not exceed a maximum number of 50 people.
  2. A general mask-wearing requirement is in place for funerals (no face shields)
  3. A distance of 1 meter must be kept to members of other households
  4. Persons living in the same household are supposed to stay together as a group and maintain a sufficient distance to all other groups
  5. Persons placed under official quarantine are not allowed to attend funerals
  6. No handshakes as greetings or expression of condolences
  7. All forms of burials permitted in Austria are allowed to take place

Are morticians still allowed to do their work?

Yes, a decree of the Federal Government exempts morticians from all regulations and restrictions and allows them to remain available and ready for service around the clock even during the corona pandemic.

Can I make my arrangements for the funeral ceremony and the burial with the mortician on site or do I have to organize the entire affair over the phone?

On-site arrangements are permitted as well - provided certain sanitary requirements and precautions have been taken. As a funeral has been classified as a so-called emergency service, funeral homes have been given permission to open their premises for the planning of the burial. Notwithstanding, we would advise you to notify and coordinate with the funeral home of your trust beforehand.

If you have been placed under quarantine or fear that you might contract the virus, you also have the option of making arrangements over the phone or by email.

How many people are allowed to attend the funeral?

Funerals must be held with no more than 50 people in attendance and in observance of the 1m social distance rule. Another key rule is to refrain from shaking hands when expressing your condolences.
Moreover, a face mask (no face shield) must be worn when entering funeral parlors and churches. Wearing the face mask outdoors is encouraged as well.

What is important to keep in mind when planning a funeral service?

You need to keep the following in mind when planning a funeral service: If you would like to hold the funeral service with all relatives and friends at a later time, we recommend that you already make this postponement known in the death announcement.
Elderly people and people with pre-existing conditions should not attend the funeral service for their own protection. Also encourage people to abstain from giving their condolences in person and invite them in the announcement to express their sympathy in a different way or at a later time. It is furthermore recommended that the persons living in the same household stay together as a group and keep at a distance of 2-3 meters from other groups.

A memory you can touch in these days of the “corona crisis”

Especially in the current situation, where massive restrictions have made it difficult to bid farewell to our loved ones, the ability to create memories of lasting significance is of the utmost importance.
Aside from offering a wonderful option to preserve memories, a gemstone can also serve as an alternative form of burial, allowing you to say good-bye properly to your dearly departed and to carry them with you at all times.

Not only are our personalized gemstones available in eight different cuts, but you can also choose from three base colors. Aside from letting you match the color and shape of the stone with your personal preference, this variety also makes it possible for you to bring out the personality of the deceased person. What is more, the elements synthesized from ashes or hair have an effect on the coloring of the gemstone and let it sparkle with its own unique shade of color.

The Mevisto gemstone funeral offers the next of kin - apart from the creation of a personalized gemstone - the advantage of a free burial in a Mevisto grave. Click here for more information on the topic of funerals and the cost associated with them
