A Mevisto on skiing holiday...

When MEVISTO invited me to tell the story behind the MEVISTO gemstone belonging to my wife, I said yes immediately.

After all, the story arises from one of these unforgettable moments that I was able to share with her thanks to a MEVISTO sapphire. Made from our hair, it was supposed to symbolize the bond we have formed between us. And to preserve this bond for eternity:

At the time, we had gone on a skiing trip together and we were spending it without our two children - for the first time.

An unusual situation - especially for Rosi - as, in the previous years, we had always taken the children with us when we went on vacation.

But, as we all know, our little ones, in this case, our two boys, inevitably come to a point where they would rather stay at home with their friends. Rosi and I, however, did not want to forgo our ski slopes adventure and had the pleasure of enjoying flawless conditions in Sölden. We visit this Ötztal skiing region every year in early January as that is the time when most tourists have already completed their Christmas vacation. I enjoyed the time with my Rosi sans kids tremendously. In the mornings, we zipped down the slopes without having to wait for the kids. In the afternoon, we lazed around at the hotel pool and relaxed in the surrounding spa area. Then, in the evening, we topped off our day with a stroll through the center of the Tyrolean ski resort, which was still bedecked with Christmas ornamentation. It took Rosi a few days, but then she started enjoying our trip without the children as well. I still remember very well how wonderful it was to see my life partner of many years without a care in the world once again. I could not have asked for a better mother for my two children, but she had put the care for her children over her own happiness way too many times in recent years. But, not this time. Rosi’s eyes were glittering, and she held my hand while we were wondering leisurely through the streets of Sölden, constantly stopping to give each other a kiss. We were happy. We still are. Even after two children and the many years of our relationship. “How lucky we are”, I often thought to myself. But, there was one thing missing to make our lives complete - especially for Rosi: a wedding ring. While Rosi kept saying in our conversations about our life together that our relationship to her was worth just as much as a marriage, I always knew that Rosi’s secret wish was for us to have a wedding.

I had been thinking about it for a long time and made the decision to propose to Rosi.

I actually had a different location in mind where I wanted to pop the question. But then we stood in front of this romantic candle store in a narrow side alley. That struck me as the perfect moment, a moment Rosi deserved so much and should never forget.

So, I took my twinkling MEVISTO ring out of my jacket pocket and said: “You know, now that we are close to becoming empty nesters”, was how I began my well-rehearsed speech. “Now that we “only” have each other. Now that we rediscover each other and have the time to focus all of our attention on each other. Now I know more than ever that I love you above all else!” Rosi’s eyes glittered when I grabbed her hand. “And, therefore, my darling Rosi, my partner, my life companion, and my friend, I would like to ask you if you would like to be my wife?”

And she agreed to do so. And keeps becoming more so every single day...
